So, I finished this cute little dress today. This was a project I really enjoyed knitting. The pattern was very well written, though in danish. It is a top-down pattern, and you can follow the same instructions for the yoke to make a dress or jacket/bolero. But the pattern also contains instructions for a top and a tunika. You can more information on the “Bella Baby”, as the pattern is called, on Ravelry.
The dress comes in three sizes (3-6 months), (9-12 months) and (18-24 months). I made the largest one, so that my 1 year old niece can use it this summer. The finished length is 36 cm/ 17 inches. Mine turned out a bit shorter, because I miss read the pattern, so I am eager to see how it fits the little recipient. But hey, I can just call it a tunika. Problem solved.
The yarn I used is from Garnstudio and is called “DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk”. It is a baby alpaca and mulberry silk blend (71% alpaca and 30% silk), perfect for a childrens garment. Soft, without to much loose hairs, and a dream to work with. I made a childrens sweater this Christmas using the same yarn. And I think I need to make something for myself with this yarn soon.
The leaf pattern is adorable, and gives the dress (tunika) a more feminine style, but without being too “sugary sweet”. The button holes are quite small, but adds to the femininity, and I think these blue buttons is a good match with the grey color of the garment.
