  1. “Putte” the conversation hat

    February 25, 2014 by sigrid

Last Friday I visited a good friend of mine. We usually meet once a week to knit, and this Friday was no exception.  But, as I am sure most knitters are aware of, not all project are suitable for a night such as this. When I decide what knitting project to bring to such a night (basically a Stitch`n bitch for two), there are two criterias that have to be met:

    1. The project should not be too big. Maybe I am just lazy, but I don’t want to bring a big duffel bag for my project to knit night. So the blanket I am currently knitting had to stay at home. Socks, on the other hand, are excellent to bring!
    2. The pattern should not be to complicated. When I visit people I think it is normal courtesy to  look at them once or twice during the evening. If you can’t talk to you fellow knitter because you are trying to follow a complicated chart on a lace project, maybe you should have brought something less complicated. Don`t be so occupied by the stitching that you forget the bitching.

So for this knit night, I left the big blanket I am knitting in its basket, and went looking for a suitable project. I wanted something small, and I also wanted to use some of the yarn left over from the Fair Isle Yoke I made for my sister (the one I wrote about in my last post). Since the yarn is alpaca socks what not an alternativ. But, I wanted a project with more than one color. After some searching, I ended up with a hat for my niece. I found the pattern in the book “Klassisk barnestrikk” by Tove Fevang. I have had this book for more than a year, but it is the first time I make something from it.

The pattern was small and easy. Perfect for knit night. The hat was a part of a sweater, pant and hat set for children 2-4 years old. I wanted to make this hat the second I lay my eyes on it. It was super easy and very fast. I even got to make a pom-pom. Something I don`t think I have done since kindergarten.
